Febrero 2, 6:30 PM: Auto-lesiones y Suicidio En Los JóvenesFebrero 16, 6:30 PM: Consejería De Salud Mental Para Jóvenes y Derechos De Los PadresMarzo 2, 7:30 PM: ¿Que Tipo De Madre/Padre Eres? | | Question: How does the PTSA choose who is going to run things and what programs to run?Answer: The RMS PTSA's mission is to support, engage, and advocate for our students, staff, and community. To fill board positions (president, secretary, etc.), parent volunteers step up and offer their time for a school year commitment. Right now, we are forming a Nominating Committee to recruit for next year’s board! Nominees are elected to board positions at the June general meeting. Current year board members train incoming officers and are available during transition and through the next year for consultation. As for Programs that the PTSA runs, these depend on a few factors, the most important being the availability of volunteers/chairpersons to run each program.VOLUNTEERS: The PTSA relies on the availability of VOLUNTEERS like you! Without chairs or volunteers to run programs such as International Night, Science Team, Math Club, these programs are not able to take place. For example, for 2020-2021, Reflections was cancelled due to lack of a chairperson to head the program. We also rely on parents/guardians/volunteers to bring forth ideas for NEW programs and activities.Interest: There should be interest from students, families, community members to have the program take place. If there is not enough interest, then a program may be paused or not run in subsequent years.Budget: Programs need to be taken account in the PTSA's yearly budget. Enrichment programs need to think about how much funds they need, fundraising and participant dues/fees and present it to the Board before a program is incorporated into the yearly lineup.Inclusivity: RMS PTSA welcomes all students, including those with special needs. Therefore, any program that is run needs to be able to support all RMS students.Adaptability: Programs need to adapt to current conditions. For example, in 2020-2021, all of our programs went virtual due to remote-learning and the pandemic. Some in-school programs, such as Health and Vision Screening assistance, were cancelled. On the other hand, new programs may be incorporated as we discover more opportunities in ever-changing environments. For example, we began a partnership with Mann PTSA to offer exciting online enrichment for our students!Do you have ideas for new programs? Do you want to volunteer next year to keep our current programs going? Please contact communications@rmsptsa.org now to express your interest!Do you have a question? Submit it now! | |
